Are you wondering what language I’m speaking? Haha! That’s exactly what I thought when I first heard of Zentagles and Zendalas. I’m the kind of person who likes to research everything from prescription medicines to artsy techniques, but I had a hard time finding indepth info on this meditative art form. Most of the websites offer a how-to approach than an informative one. I stumbled on http://www.zentangle.com and they had some infomation on this art form.

Here is MY definition:  AZzentangle is a process of doodling in a meditative state with “tangles” and repeated patterns.  Usually these are black and white so you use patterns to fill in the blank areas…kinda like color.  A Zendala is a hybrid of a  Mandala circle & Zentangle art.  Here is a great website with how-to tutorials  for making Zendalas  http://www.milliande.com/Zendala-How-To-Draw-A-Mandala-Zentangle-Style.html .  That site is wonderful for a little inspiration!  I went a head and posted Milliande’s youtube video so you can see how freaking fun and freeing this is!!!

Just a word of warning…Zentangles are addictive!  I love instant gratification crafts and Zentangles are quick and easy and a perfect stress reliever.  If you’re stressed out, then try out a Zentangle.  There really isn’t any right or wrong way…just YOUR way!  Here is my first Zendala (because it is a circle like a Mandala for meditation).  I love it and I found myself getting lost in all the tangled patterns.  I think I’ll try out using red for the lines in my next one to step it up a little.  I’ll keep ya updated.

So I’ve been getting into the Sookie Stackhouse books writen by Charlaine Harris….aka the True Blood series on HBO, and fell upon a great challenge.  Beth Fish Reads is a fun book review blog and Beth has put together a cool challenge if your into the fangy series.  The challenge starts on July 1, 2009 and you have one year to read the entire series (9 books).  At her blog, you can link your own blog page, post reviews, monitor your progress with others, and discuss the books.  A very fun idea and a great way to get more folks reading!  If you’d like to join in on the challenge, then go HERE

So lately I have felt like everything I read or want to read turns out to become a movie.

Now I did read Harry Potter, but that was after watching the first movie.  I liked all the Harry Potter books AND movies.  Another book turned movie is  The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards.   I loved this book, but then Lifetime had to go and “try” to make a movie out of it.  The movie, in my opinion, was quite boring and I actually  fell asleep during it!  A better example is  White Oleander by Janet Fitch.  Now this book I did read years after the release of the movie, but  I really LOVE LOVE LOVED the movie so I knew the book had to be better….and it was!  Read this book if you liked the movie…it’s worth it!  Another example is Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.  I knew this book was pretty popular and there was a movie coming out  so I just had to  read it before it came out so I could compare the book to the movie.  Turns out, I really didn’t care for the book OR the movie, LOL!  I know the series is geared toward teens, but there were so many people reading it…hell, even my haridresser was reading the series, but the one book I did read was too mushy and lovey-dovey!  I mean seriously, do people really like reading about teens going gaga over a boy….a vampire boy?!  Nope, this book did not do it for me.    Now if you’re looking for a good vampire book, you should try the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris…aka True Blood on HBO.  Now this was a GREAT vampire book!  Twilight tried, but True Blood did it!  I only have basic cable so I never actually saw any of the season 1 True Blood episodes when I started reading the first book.  After I read the first book, season 1 of  True Blood  came out on DVD and I couldn’t wait to add it to my queue on Netflix!  The show rocks just as much as the book!   I have just one more disc to get through (2 more episodes) before I finish season 1 and then I’ll have to wait till season 2 is finished up on HBO, which I still don’t have, lol!  Until then, I’ll go get the next book in the series and keep myself occupied for the time being.

Let’s see….I know there are others…oh, yes!  The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffeneger.  One of my favorite books EVER!!!  And it is scheduled to release August 14, 2009 in theatres….I seriously can’t wait!!!!!  Im curious to see how well they pull this off with all the different time travel scenes and different ages of the main characters during those time travel scenes.  Check out the official trailer for the movie!

So I hate the radio…on most days.  I can’t stand how it’s the same artists over and over and nothing new.   That’s why I love to find new artists.  I have hippie friends who tell me about unknown artists they see at concerts, I read indie blogs, and I just play around on itunes.  There is nothing like playing your ipod at work and your cubicle buddy catches on to some of your “odd” music…then word gets out that your “indie girl” or the “zen chic”.  Ahh…yep, that’s me!

I thought it would be fun to do a kind of artist spotlight once in a while of some new artists that I come across.  What’s new to me just might be new to you too…who knows, you just might like it.

Here is my first spotlight:

Hello world!

Hello there!  My name is Lynn and  I love to create!  I’m pretty new to the world of blogging, but I figure I’ll give it a shot.  In my blog, I plan to write about what I like and is passionate to me.  I plan on writing posts about new music, books, art, crafts, activism, movies…well, anything that is creative.  I especially love to learn new crafting techniques so check back often to check out some of my finished creations.

Let’s see…maybe a little more about me:  I am 26 and recently married to the best man in the world (yes, I am a lil bias since he is my hubby).  We live in Florida with our beagle, Baxter and two guinea pigs, Munchie & Winston.  I work in credit cards for one of the largest banks in the world (yes, this company did recieve bailouts and *almost* spent some of the money on a new company jet….no names will be mentioned).  I hate where I work and wish the economy would pick up so I could find something better, but I’m stuck for now so I craft to get rid of the stress.  I am in the middle of having corrective foot surgery for bunions.  I’ve already had surgery on my right foot 4 wks ago and will be having my left foot done tomorrow.   I have another 4 wks of recovery before I go back to work so I have a lot fo free time to craft!
